The One You Hounslow health walks throughout the borough are a great way to discover its beautiful parks and green spaces.
UK researchers have found that green spaces have a long-term positive effect on people’s well-being. They also found that having access to good quality parks is hugely beneficial for mental health.
Going for walks in green spaces increases feel-good hormones which helps people feel calmer, reduces depression and fatigue. The borough of Hounslow provides excellent opportunities for this.
Kanla Gomez takes part in the Chiswick House health walks and is now a trained walk leader. She said: "It is a wonderful way to keep healthy, to maintain a healthy mind and to appreciate the wonderful nature around you. Walking is the best kind of exercise because it's free and there's no charge. I come here often and feel better for it.”
The historical Chiswick House, Osterley Park, Hanworth Park, Inwood Park and Lampton Park provide acres of greenery, flower gardens and lakes for people in the Hounslow community to uncover new walk routes.
Jennie has been a health walk leader since completing her training last September and has been passionate about health walks for ten years. She said: "I'm so lucky to live in this part of the borough because there is such beautiful green space here. To have accessible space like this in the middle of London is fabulous because not everywhere has such a well-kept space like this.
She said: “The health benefits are so positive and varied. It really does boost your immune system and the exercise is great for your health. The green spaces are also socially beneficial and helps to create a sense of community as you get to walk with your friends or kids rather than being alone."
